High Velocity Impact Cold Forming
HVI Cold Forming is based on the same
principle as for high velocity compacting, but
with the essential difference that a
homogeneous material rather than powder is
formed. The image to the right demonstrates sample components that can be cold formed.
Forming takes place in a cold state at
high speed and high energy, which means
that the material’s deformation resistance is
reduced, allowing increased material deformation
without the risk of fracture.
High velocity forming of
homogeneous materials,
Energy is generated Forming starts Forming completed
Advantages of high velocity
forming are:
• no preheating required
• high rate of production
• close tolerances
• good surface quality
• long tool life
